Why is this important?
Twitter's board must take responsibility to make sure Elon Musk’s personal and political agenda doesn’t destroy the company. Twitter users are watching.
You have claimed you are a purpose-driven company. You now need to prove it.
Just 3 days after you approved the sale of Twitter, Musk is already attacking Twitter executives and mobilizing his followers to do the same with racist language. This is not new for Elon Musk.
As a personal user, Elon Musk has weaponized Twitter to spread transphobic and antisemitic messages, as well as COVID-19 disinformation. As owner, Musk has made it very clear that he will roll back content moderation policies under the guise of “free speech.” This will inevitably lead to increased disinformation and hateful content on the platform that will harm the most marginalized communities — and democracy itself.
Your role in ensuring the future of Twitter does not end with your fiscal responsibility: You must also ensure the safety and security of the people who use this platform every day. And because of Twitter’s outsize role in almost all political and social discourse, the impact of this decision is far-reaching, both on and off the platform.
As the board you have a responsibility to make sure Elon Musk’s personal and political agenda doesn’t destroy the company. Twitter users are watching.
